MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
"That the Council report, following discussions at the last traffic management meeting and agreed minutes following a deputation by the Parents Association of St Andrew's NS, on measures to improve safety along the Lucan Road in the vicinity of St Andrew's, which also impacts on children attending Colaiste Phadraig and St Mary's BNS, including the following areas:
- School time 30kph limit signage and enforcement
- Potential for provision of a school traffic warden
- Review of entrance and exit signage and markings at St Andrew's NS
- Further consideration of safety railings on both sides of this busy road to herd pedestrian traffic to safer crossing points
- The erection of adequate of bus lane hours of usage signage from the school towards Woodies junction;
and if a statement could be made on the matter"
REPORT:
There are no provision in the Council's workforce plan to appoint new School Wardens for any new school crossings in South County Dublin. However, the Road Safety Officer will consider this area in terms of the ongoing countywide review of School Crossings. The RSO visited St. Andrews NS on 26th September 2017 and delivered road safety education to classroom students.
The RSO has committed to visiting other schools in the Lucan area in the over the coming weeks.
