COMHAIRLE CHONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TERENURE-RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE (2)
Tuesday 14th February 2006
MOTION No. 8
Cathaoirleach's Business: Councillor A. White
"That the Manager present a report on the parking situation in Pearse Brothers Park which is a serious ongoing problem for residents and in relation to which a previous commitment was given to this Committee that a meeting would be held with residents to seek to progress this urgent matter."
REPORT:
This matter was previously explored and examined by the Council's Roads Department and options for addressing the difficulties were tabled. Serious concerns were raised with the proposals however when consultations on the matter were advanced. The Roads Department asked this Department to examine if any alternatives proposals were open for consideration in conjunction with the development of the planned estate wide plan for the area. Following the presentation of initial reports to the Area Committee on how this estate wide plan could be advanced some initial enquiries were made and some discussions took place with residents. It was explained to residents that pending the development of concepts for the estate wide plan it was premature to commence a fulll consultative mechanism. It had been indicated that the concepts for the estate plan would not be available until the second half of this year. It should also be noted that the Council has an objective to implement an estate wide plan for the area as an integral element of its 2004 - 2008 Housing Action Plan and that the delivery of the plan will encompass a linked series of integrated phases to enable a strong and deliverable programme to be developed.
In the meantime upgrading works are planned for this estate to bring the Council's housing units up to the quality standard of other Council tenanted properties/estates.
