MOTION NO. 3

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

"That the laneways in Palmerstown be cleaned and put on a realistic schedule and that the lane between Palmerstown Drive and Culmore Road be repaired where subsidence has occurred, ponding/mud accumulates and where the surface is a danger or a hazard for pedestrians."

REPORT:

The Public Realm Section were maintaining the laneways in Palmerstown on a six week rotating cycle as set out in H-I (9) that was presented to the Lucan ACM in March 2014. In 2015 this arrangement changed and the Roads Gateway Crews assigned to the Palmerstown Depot were tasked with the cleaning of laneways until the Gateway scheme finished in 2016. The maintenance has since reverted back to the Public Realm Section. It is proposed to reintroduce the six week cleansing programme that was in place prior to the Gateway scheme.

The laneways proposed for inclusion in the Palmerston laneway cleansing schedule are set out in the Table below. It is proposed that the maintenance work to be carried out will include litter removal, removal of fly-tipped waste and the removal or spraying of weeds as required.

It should be noted that the laneway outlined in red (rear of 7-13 Oakcourt Grove) and the section of laneway shaded green (rear of 13-29 Oakwood Grove, rear of 12-15 Oakwood Close and rear of 100-134 Oakwood Drive) on the attached map are not in public ownership and are not included in the schedule for cleansing.

The Roads Maintenance Section have advised that the laneway will be examined by the Area Engineer to ascertain if repairs are needed.
