MOTION NO.4
MOTION: Councillor P. Foley
"This Council has passed a budget with an allocation for traffic calming. In the past, this allocation has been used to provide ramps. This ACM asks that that allocation be used to fund more extensive traffic calming proposals in the areas suffering the most; as an example Beechdale & Ferncourt Estates."
REPORT:
"In 2017 the Tallaght AC agreed to spend part of their allocation on roundabouts within Rossfield Estate, while the cost of these was significant they have proved to be effective. Other variations from ramps have included finger islands and bus pillows at selected locations.
Given the relatively small allocation to traffic calming, the cost of particular installations such as roundabouts and the list of traffic calming demands throughout the county, we must be seen to spread the benefit as widely as possible to demonstrate maximum citizen benefit.
While SDCC will always welcome Members views and proposals in terms of alternatives, we caution that because the allocation is equal in all areas, you will get very little physical infrastructure if particular solutions are requested. For the record 2018 requests are complete and we have ample requests to fill 2019 and beyond."
