Adamstown R(120)

The (R120) Adamstown Road and (R134) Nangor Road Improvement Scheme: 

The contract for the (R120) Adamstown Road and (R134) Nangor Road Improvement Scheme has been awarded to Wills Brothers limited. The contractor has now commenced work on site and has started with some site clearance works and setting up a site compound.  

The Scope of these Works include, all temporary and permanent construction works necessitated for the construction of the realigned and new roads along the R120 and R134. Also as part of the Works is the part demolition of the existing 12th Lock bridge over the Grand Canal and the replacement with a new wider bridge structure.

Primarily the Works are concentrated in the areas as follows;

• Approximately 1.6km of new/realigned road on the R120 Adamstown Road
• Approximately 1.25km of new/realigned road on the R134 Nangor Road
• Approximately 600m of new/realigned road on the Baldonnell Road
• Approximately 495m of new/realigned road minor roads (side-roads, canal towpaths etc)
• Demolition of a 1932 extension to the 12th Lock Bridge over the Grand Canal
• Construction of a new wider (replacement) bridge at the 12th Lock.

Along with the realignment of these roads, a number of new services will be installed to future proof the area such as water, gas, communications and power. There will also be new Public lighting and a combined footpath and cycle track throughout the scheme. The Works when completed will vastly improve the accessibility of the area for both businesses and residents. The expected duration of the works is 15 months.
