MOTION: Councillor Emma Hendrick

That this council supports a referendum to repeal the eight amendment to be held no later than May 2018, based on the citizens assembly recommendations and this referendum should go ahead whether or not there is a general election before then

REPORT:

A referendum on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution has been confirmed to be held in May or June 2018.  The Report and recommendations of the Citizen's Assembly was considered by both Houses of the Óireachtas, following which a Joint Óireachtas Committee was established and is required to report its conclusions and recommendations to both Houses within three months of its first public meeting (20th September 2017).
