QUESTION No. 31

QUESTION: Cllr. Fintan McCarthy

To ask the Manager to consider the provision of Automatic External Defibrillators in all Council buildings as an initial step towards making them available in all Parks Department vehicles. Such an initiative has the potential to save lives?

REPLY:

A number of defibrillators have been purchased by the Council for use in different areas of activity, both indoors and out.

Some initial difficulties were experienced in getting staff to volunteer for the relevant training in their use.  At this stage, however, some 26 staff have put their names forward and the first 10 of these volunteers will be trained by the Irish Heart Foundation at the end of February 2006.  It is expected that the remaining volunteers will receive their training in March.  Additional defibrillators will be purchased as required.
