MOTION NO.3

MOTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

"That the Chief Executive presents a report on the possibility of opening Whitechurch Library as a Library Hub, similar to the Palmerstown Hub."

REPORT:

"The current position regarding the Carnegie Library at Whitechurch was outlined at the Arts, Culture, Gaeilge, Heritage & Libraries SPC meeting in September 2017. It was emphasised at the meeting that there was no justification to restore the former part time library given the proximity to the state of the art Ballyroan Library. The library at Whitechurch continues to be used as a community space and the WEB project continues to meet there. Members discussed ideas of using the space for music generation performance/rehearsal space and or Arts/Libraries exhibitions. In addition the idea of a small book library exchange programme was suggested. At the SPC meeting there was some discussion around other community groups who might use the space. There is no provision for a digital library hub in Whitechurch in current budgets."
