QUESTION NO.19
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
To ask SDCC for a report into how they will encourage and promote Dementia Friendly towns as outlined in The Dementia Friendly Communities Toolkit (https://www.alzheimer.ie/Get-Involved/Dementia-Friendly-Communities/Dementia-Friendly-Communities.aspx) by Alzheimer's Ireland and to ask SDCC to take into account this in all new planning applications and decisions.
REPLY:
The Council adopts an "access for all" approach when considering the design of both its own projects, e.g. Village Enhancements & road projects etc. and also when considering planning applications for all private developments.
Developers and designers are required to adhere to all national standards and legislation regarding design of public spaces and community areas/spaces. These Standards adhere to universal access and include specific design considerations for citizens who may require special consideration in how they utilise our public spaces and towns.
