MOTION NO.13

MOTION: Councillor M. Johansson

That, following the tragic fire at Grenfell in London, a fire safety review of multiple unit buildings constructed between 2000 and 2008 be carried out in the South Dublin County Council area, that said review will entail an audit of all buildings in the area constructed at this time and that random checks of those buildings then be conducted to ascertain whether there is any cause for concern.

REPORT:

Developments constructed, including those multi-unit developments constructed between 2000 and 2008, were subject to routine checks by Council Building Inspectors under the Building Control Act at the time of construction.  Any defects discovered during these inspections, relating to Fire Safety or other Building Regulation issues, were notified to the Developers and defects corrected.  Routine Inspections during construction of a sample of buildings for which a commencement Notice is received will continue as per the normal requirements of South Dublin County Councils role as a Building Control Authority.
