MOTION NO. 9

MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to present a report, for discussion, on the plans for delivery of allotments in the Lucan area as per the commitment contained in the Capital Programme; and to further request a report on the examination of the feasibility of using SDCC-owned lands at Cooldrinagh for allotments."

REPORT:

The initial plans for the delivery of an allotment site for the Lucan and North Clondalkin areas was for a location on a future extension of the Griffeen Valley Park. This site is now part of the Clonburris SDZ and is subject to the current review of the Clonburris SDZ. Other sites are being investigated and the Cooldrinagh land has been included in this. It would be a suitable site in terms of access and soil but is located at one end of the county and might not be easily accessible to other areas. In tandem with this the Council is examining the waiting list for allotments County wide to determine where the greatest need is for such a facility. A mapping exercise is currently underway in terms of need versus provision. This examination should be concluded shortly and will form part of a report on the programme to the Elected Members.
