MOTION NO. 1
MOTION: Councillor V. Casserly
"That Lucan Area Committee commends the Chief Executive, council staff and members of the community who took an active role in the Inaugural Participatory Budget 300k have your say. We look forward to completion of projects."
REPORT:
The initiative was led by a Steering Group of elected members nominated by the Council and senior managment across the relevant departments including Corporate Performance and Change Management, Community, IT, Finance and the Co-ordinator of the Lucan Area Committee. There was also extensive engagement with local communities through local workshops to identify project ideas, including school children, the creation of a website and media campaign to raise the profile of the initiative, the use of local communication channels such as the Public Participatory Network, as well as the public vote through which the winning ideas were selected. In total 160 submissions were received during the Ideas phase and 2,598 digital/paper ballot votes were cast. The level of engagement is considered to be even higher with the number of volunteers that were involved in supporting hte workshops and promoting awarneess in their local communities to make the initiative a success.
Following the public vote, the eight projects below were successful and will be implemented by South Dublin County Council within the coming twelve months. Elected Members will be regularly updated on the progress of the winning projects through the Lucan Area Committee Meetings. An evaluation of the initiative is currently underway with the IPA to document the process and identify a sustainable model to bring this initiative beyond a pilot stage.
