MOTION NO.1
MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty
That the Chief Executive boosts resources for its Planning Enforcement section and also undertakes to review how the system currently operates with a view to providing greater transparency in responses for elected representatives and members of the public alike, as recent incidences have not served to promote faith in the system.
REPORT:
Approval has recently been given to recruit an additional Planning Inspector and this post will be advertised shortly. A significant amount of staff resources has been allocated over the past 12 months to reducing the amount of open files and a significant number of cases have been resolved. In addition a number of cases have successfully resulted in Court Orders.
It should be noted that the Local Authority is constrained in what information can be disseminated regarding any particular case as planning enforcement is a potential criminal legal matter and Council's policy is not to discuss publicly cases that may ultimately end up before the Courts.
