QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"To ask the Chief Executive to make a report to this Area Committee indicating what the average waiting time is for tenants requiring bathroom adaptions and to indicate how many applications there are on file at the moment?"
REPLY:
"Currently there are 251 applications on hand for bathroom adaptation works.
In order to address the backlog of applications, we have begun to carry out all small works (grab rails/bathroom seats/drop down shower seats/shower doors and other small works) by our own direct labour crew and this has alleviated the waiting time for these works and has begun to make an inroad into the waiting lists.
However, other bathroom works such as the installation of level access showers and indeed the installation of downstairs bathrooms themselves must continue to be procured using a tender process. This is time consuming and involves engaging contractors to carry out works under the Disabled Persons Grant Scheme.
It is not possible to give a timeframe for the commencement of works at properties due to the large volume of applications on hand for works. However, we always endeavour to process priority files as quickly as possible being cognisant of the urgency of such works."
