SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 10
QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
"To ask that the Council take whatever action is open to it to address the ongoing and persistent issue of stray horses on the Newcastle Road. They are a serious hazard for traffic and a source of nuisance to local residents?"
REPLY:
"All complaints of loose horses should be reported promptly and directly to the Council to afford the South Dublin County Council's Horse Contractor the best chance of seizure.
Reports of sightings of loose horses outside of office hours should be made directly to the Gardaí.
When a report is received regarding loose horses, South Dublin County Council's Horse Contractor is informed and requested to attend the site and seize any loose horses. The Contractor requires Garda assistance in a lot of these seizures for safety reasons.
The Council received 4 separate reports of loose horses on the Newcastle Road, in all cases, the Horse Contractor attended the site given in the reports. Up to 17th February, 2017 6 horses were seized and brought to the Pound."
