HEADED ITEM NO. 6
Public Realm Improvement Works Programme 2017
Provision has been made by the Chief Executive in the 2017 budget for the carrying out of small improvement works in parks and open space areas around the County such as the surfacing of paths, boundary works, CCTV provision, roundabout improvements and other works. Those works proposed to take place in the Clondalkin area in 2017 are listed below. These proposals have been compiled from issues raised as agenda items at area committee meetings throughout the course of the year, undertakings given in response to members representations throughout the year as well as works that have been identified by staff. It should be noted that the list provided does not include those works which have already been included in the Council's three year rolling capital works programme, it includes only those works of a small scale which are to be funded from the revenue budget.
There are a number of schemes included that appear on the 2016 Improvement Works Programme which have commenced and will be completed in Quarter 1. These are footpath improvement works at Knockmitten Park, upgrading St Johns Estate pedestrian entrance to Corkagh Park, upgrading the vehicle entrance to Collinstown Park and upgrading the Cherrywood Crescent entrance to Corkagh Park.
The removal of vegetation from the Fonthill Roundabout is proving difficult to achieve and an alternative herbicide was used in late in 2016 with good results. It is proposed to continue with treatment in 2017 and to landscape the roundabout as soon as the vegetation issue has been addressed.
Works in Clondalkin Car Park did not proceed as the level of funding required to comprehensively resolve the surfacing and kerbing issues was insufficient and additional funding is required. The project has therefore been listed in the 2017-2020 Rolling Capital Programme. The provision of new signage has been put on hold pending the review of council signage on a countywide basis.
