QUESTION NO. 6
QUESTION: Councillor M. Ward
Can the Council provide any update from the motion below that was agreed at the November area committee, giving that the St Patrick's Day parade is just over two months away?
If there is no update how would the Council suggest I progress this issue?
"This Committee agrees that as the Clondalkin St Patrick's Day festival is funded by the Council that all Councillors in the Clondalkin LEA be invited to sit on the organizing committee and that a full report be presented to committee by the officials on last year's events including all funding and expenditure etc. The committee also agrees that Council staff should be on the committee and minutes should be publicly available."
REPLY:
The Clondalkin St Patrick's Day Festival like all the local Community Festivals in the County is run and organised by a local voluntary organising committee.
The Community Services Department and the local Community Development Teams have the role of providing advice and support to these local voluntary committees as requested and this may also lead to providing some funding supports. Where it is appropriate local Community Development Team staff may sit of these committees, for example if a new festival is just being established and a high level of support for a specific timeframe is required.
Often part of the advice given to the local voluntary organising committees is that they should consider engaging and seeking supports from all their locally elected members which is accepted practice.
The Clondalkin St Patrick's Day Festival Committee was allocated funding support of €5000 in 2016. Receipts to document the total grant expenditure as per the funding guidelines have been received from the Committee. There is a small underspend on this allocation. The Area Community Officer will discuss how this will be managed.
The application form for funding for St. Patrick's Day Community celebrations will be forwarded to existing groups shortly.
