MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor M. Ward

''This committee agrees that the gravel base around the trees in Clondalkin Village is inadequate and unsightly and that the Council provide a report for discussion to find an alternative base to the gravel base around these trees. The gravel has proven impossible to maintain in any reasonable fashion. It is constantly being blown and kicked across the streets.''

REPORT:

A meeting was held with a representative from the Clondalkin Tidy Town on November 22nd 2016 in relation to the application of resin bonded surfaces to the tree pits in Clondalkin Village. The project is co-funded by SDCC for which a grant has been provided. At the site meeting an inspection of all tree pits in Clondalkin was undertaken. The report of the meeting is set out below.

Ninth Lock Road:

*         Resurface 4 tree pits side of The Mill Shopping centre opposite Oakfield.  Note: The cobble set edging is to be reinstated as part of the works.

*         Resurface 4 tree pits outside Department of Social Protection Office.

Civic Offices:

*         Consideration to be given to resurfacing 6 tree pits.

Orchard Road:

*         Civic offices end- Remove grills on 3 tree pits and tree guard on one tree pit.  Plant one tree and resurface all 3 locations.

*         Due to presence of tree roots and height of soil around trees on west side of Orchard Road in front of houses 7-18, it may not be possible to resurface all these 8 locations.  To ensure uniformity it was decided to resurface the tree pits on the east side of the road from Molloys to the bridge over the Camac.  This includes 10 tree pits in total.

Tower Road:

*         Resurface 5 tree pits on section of road between Round Tower and Nangor Road. Note: hoarding for Round Tower construction works is obstructing access to 2 tree pits.

*         Resurface tree pit outside 3 Tower Road Cottages.

*         Resurface tree pit opposite 6 Tower Road.

*         10 tree pits outside Tuthills are not suitable for resurfacing.

Clondalkin Tidy Towns have received quotes for the works and are proposing to carry out the works.
