MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor S. Holland

"That the SPC  carry out an assessment of bus lanes in the county, specifically at Ballycullen, to ascertain whether they are frequently enough used to justify precluding cars from using them round the clock."

REPORT:

"The hours of operation of a QBC are related to several issues, not just frequency of the bus service in the area.  Significant amongst these issues is junction design, bus lane termination design and cycle facilities along the QBC. Part time QBC's are designed differently to meet their specification and their hours of operation.

For the Council to redesignate 24 hour bus lanes in order to allow general traffic would require redesign of such bus corridors which would carry significant costs. In addition such an approach could compromise the principles underpinning the provision of sustainable transport measures."
