COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, December 20, 2016
MOTION NO. 13
MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole
Cathaoirleach's Business
"That the Chief Executive further investigate the provision of CCTV in the Lucan area as CCTV scheme does not currently exist in the Lucan Area, particularly in hot spots such as public amenity areas and sports club houses / facilities."
REPORT:
"The provision of CCTV in Community and Sports Clubs is a matter for the management of these facilities.
The Community Based CCTV Scheme (which was led by the then Department of Justice and Law Reform) is no longer open for any new funding applications.
The Council continually examines options for surveillance to reduce incidences of littering / illegal dumping and dog fouling. Such surveillance includes, inter alia, CCTV cameras which can assist in the prevention and detection of crime.
In managing this service, the Council is mindful of resources available, and requests for the installation of technologies (fixed and mobile, overt and covert) are assessed on a case by case basis and have regard to criteria set out in the Litter Management Plan 2015-2019 ie where there is a demonstrated need to assist the Council in collecting evidence to assist in investigation of indiscriminate and persistent dumping and illegal activity.
