QUESTION NO. 13

QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

"To ask the Chief Executive to have the Parking Meters in Palmerstown Village adjusted so as to provide the same level of service as similar meters throughout the County and to reconcile the fact that all meters are in fact within the Village area. At present there is a difference between those on Lower Kennelsfort Rd and those on the Old Lucan Road and the ones on the Old Lucan Road appear to give lesser value for money. Also, to indicate if Palmerstown Village enjoys free parking on Saturdays as previously requested?"

REPLY:

"Pay and Display Parking is operational in Palmerstown Village Monday to Saturday inclusive.  There are currently seven Pay and Display Meters in the Palmerstown Area.  Meters 92, 93, 94 and 96 and their respective parking spaces are included in the 30 Minute free Parking Scheme. However, Meters 97 and 98 are located at Woodfarm Cottages and Red Cow Cottages, which are considered residential areas with a high level of Permit Parking (residential and visitors).  In accordance with the provisions of South Dublin County Council (Control of Parking) Bye Laws 2010 parking at these locations are not included in the 30 Minutes Free Parking.  It should be noted that this measure is in place in order to ensure parking is available for Permit Holders. Similarly, Meter 99, which is situated alongside Stewarts Hospital and faces a row of residential properties is not included in the 30 Minutes Free Parking Scheme. In all there are 25 Permit Holders in the Palmerstown Area covered by the aforementioned locations and this number is steadily growing.  Locations not covered by the 30 Minutes Free Parking Scheme can avail of the 10 Minutes grace period.  All Pay and Display Meters included in the 30 Minutes Free Parking Scheme are clearly marked.  Any changes to the current scheme in Palmerstown would require amendments to the South Dublin County Council (Control of Parking) Bye Laws 2010."
