QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
"To ask for an update report into work carried out on Camac River? and to include what further works are required and envisaged in the future? to include in report the area known as Sally Lane (located at pedestrian entrance to the community centre from Old Nangor Road -up past Kingdom Hall Church) - to ask SDCC to look at restoring the Camac and Sally Lane to its former glory."
REPLY:
The Camac is assessed each year and the appropriate clearing works are carried out. This year the works on clearing debris and excess vegetation from the Camac from the Corkagh Ponds to Toyota on Killeen Road were done by the Drainage Operations Section in the context of Flood Alleviation.
The CFRAM report for the Camac did not propose a large scheme but the Drainage Capital section is examining the river for potential local measures in line with the CFRAM recommendations.
There are no plans by the Drainage section to alter the drainage on Sally Lane. We understand that there are bats on Sally Lane which is why the lighting has not been altered at this location.
As part of the SDCC Round Tower Development, the Senior Architect has been carrying out research on the tourism potential in the area and she may be able to give you some assistance and welcome input in devising plans that could enhance the character of the area.
