MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM/TEMPLEOGUE-TERENURE AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan

"To ask the Chief Executive how many houses the Dog Warden has called to within the Rathfarnham/Templeogue-Terenure area seeking proof of dog licence ownership and how much revenue has been collected from same?"

REPLY:

"South Dublin County Council has a team of two (2) full time Dog Wardens who enforce the provisions of the Control of Dogs Act 1986, as amended, (the Act) and all Control of Dogs Regulations.

The Dog Wardens' role includes the enforcement of the Control of Dogs Act 1986 as amended and also:

The Dog Wardens carry out licence checks in our administrative area on a five year rotating basis.  During the period between January 1st 2016 and 30th November 2016 the Dog Wardens called to approximately 1,040 houses in the Rathfarnham/Templeogue-Terenure area.

Our online system does not have a tool that allows for the calculation of revenue received either as a result of the licence checks referred to above or on an area by area basis. However, Dog Licence fees collected (to date in 2016) for South Dublin County Council's administrative area is approx. €160,000."
