MOTION NO.  10

MOTION: Councillor M. Johansson

"That this committee, in light of the worsening of the housing crisis, agrees that any land with residential zoning owned by SDCC should solely be used for public housing."

REPORT:

All Council housing land is examined in the first instance for social housing and will be developed for same unless there are compelling reasons not to do so. Such reasons may well include lack of services and access or the creation of large estates that are contrary to National Housing Policy and Strategy. 

Also we have to have regard to Rebuilding Ireland, the action plan on Housing and Homeless, as presented to the Council recently.  The action plan provides for housing delivery across a number of themes requiring integrated and sustainable delivery and a means of stimulating the private market to assist in the provision of social housing
