QUESTION NO. 20

QUESTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

"Could the Chief Executive confirm (via the EPA) as a matter of urgency the cause of the ongoing odour emanating from the Celbridge road which is affecting residents of Weston, Lucan. The residents have had to keep windows closed particularly during the summer. It has also been reported that SuperValu on the Celbridge Road has had to keep all doors and windows closed during the warm weather."

REPLY:

"Where an individual or a group of people have an environmental problem that relates to matters like littering, backyard burning, water pollution, noise, dust or odurs, that has in the first step not produced a satisfactory result, they can contact the Council for investigated.

Alternatively, contact can be made directly with the EPA through the National Environmental Complaints Line which is available on a 24 hour basis at 1850 365 121.

Environmental Health Officials are aware of this issue and have been dealing with a lot of complaints about offensive odours in the Weston area. The EHO has determined that the problem originates in the Kildare County Council area and both that Council and the EPA are aware of the complaints.

Although the EHO didn’t experience the odours during a visit to the area, the proprietor of the "offending" property has advised that the problem is related to slurry spreading in recent weeks and has now abated."
