COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE
Monday, October 24, 2016
QUESTION NO 6.
QUESTION: Councillor M. Duff
"To ask the Chief Executive to make a report to this Area Committee regarding the extraordinary waiting times for bathroom adaptation works to be carried out in the homes of our Senior Citizen tenants. There are reports of a two year wait for the likes of a low level shower base to be fitted, despite OT reports calling for urgent intervention on behalf of an infirm and aged tenant?"
REPLY:
"There are currently 324 applications on hand from Council tenants for DPG works to facilitate tenants or members of their families who suffer varying disabilities. These applications include extensions, bathroom adaptations, level access showers, ramps and the installation of stair lifts. These works are prioritised by the tenants GP and Occupational Therapist on a high, moderate and low level need. Where possible, we also prioritise works where alterations/adaptations would facilitate the discharge from hospital, the NRH, or alleviate hospitalisation in the future.
Minor works to Council dwellings are financed from Internal Capital Receipts. The DOECLG has approved South Dublin County Council funding of €468,000 for improvement works and DPG Grants to Council dwellings for 2016. To date on foot of this approval, the Council has completed DPG works to 58 dwellings, completed 4 large bedroom and bathroom extensions and has sanctioned another 2 bedroom and bathroom extensions to commence in the coming months. In addition to these works, specially adapted bathrooms have been installed in vacant properties which are OPA specific, and will continue to be installed where deemed necessary.
While there is no prescribed timeline for the assessment of applications and completion of adaptation works on our Council stock for tenants affected by medical conditions, all available resources to bring applications and works to a satisfactory conclusion are applied as speedily as possible."
