COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, October 25, 2016
MOTION NO. 28
MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
"That this Area Committee, noting the regular incidence of anti-social behaviour in secluded areas of public green space, requests the Chief Executive to prioritise works to trim and thin-out undergrowth at:
- Willsbrook Park (as previously committed to as part a multi-annual programme)
- hedgerow at Fforster Park;
- hedgerow between Ash Park and Elm.
REPORT:
Willsbrook Park: Pruning and thinning works will take place alongside paths at junctions where they meet other paths or at bends. This will be most evident on the paths in the vicinity of the pedestrian entrance opposite Bewley estate. The works will be carried out on a phased basis as set out in the report to the Lucan Area Committee Meeting in October 2015. Initial works will commence in 2016/17 Winter Pruning Programme.
Fforster Park: While there have been some recent incidences of anti-social behaviour at this location in the form of fires, the frequency and number of occurrences would not indicate that there is a significant problem present. The vegetation that is growing here is an old field boundary that was retained during the planning process to provide visual and noise screening for residents from the R136. The removal of undergrowth will reduce the effectiveness of this screening. While there are no works currently listed for this location the area will considered for pruning should this motion be passed.
Ash Park and Elm Estate: The removal of low growing vegetation to increase passive supervision of this area has been listed for inclusion in the 2016/17 winter pruning programme.
