QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the Chief Executive to update members on efforts he is making to ensure that the image of Cookstown Industrial Estate is improved to allow presentation of the Estate as a suitable area for job creation investment and in responding will he appreciate the importance of this matter to the Tallaght community?"

REPLY:

The Business Support Fund is specifically targeted at improving the visual amenity, investment potential and employment creation of older industrial areas of the County through various initiatiuves including individual unit, area improvement, micorenterprise development and business support grants.  Cookstown Industrial Estate is priority area for the Business Support Fund.

Two significant projects at Old Belgard Road and Cookstown Enterprise Park which are being carried out in conjunction with the local business community in Cookstown through the Business Support Fund Industrial Area Improvement Schemes with a combined total expenditure of over €100,000 are nearing completion.  These works comprise landscape, clearance, road improvement and footpath improvement works and will result in a hugely improved presentation of that area which will also be used to showcase what can be achieved through the Business Support Fund to other businesses in Cookstown and elsewhere.

There are also some applications for works to individual units in Cookstown under both the Individual Unit Supports and Microenterprise Development schemes of the Business Support Fund which are currently being assessed and which have the potential to also provide visual improvements as well as supporting job creation and microenterprise development.

In addition, all businesses in the area with an annual rates liability of less than €10,000 are eligible to apply for the Business Support Grant for which the closing date has been extended to 30th November 2016.
