COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, October 25, 2016
MOTION NO. 4
MOTION: Councillor E. O'Brien
"To ask the Chief Executive, in light of the difficulties experienced to date in obtaining reasonable tenders for the progression of a Pavilion at Griffeen Valley Park and the subsequent approval of funding for the provision of a swimming pool to be located in the same area, to examine if there are any benefits to, or cost savings which could be delivered by re locating the said Pavilion and including it in the swimming pool project."
REPORT:
"Lucan Swimming Pool will be located next to the existing Lucan Sports and Leisure Centre and the management model will be similar to the existing Sports and Leisure Centres in the County. The Council has advanced on the Swimming Pool with the Department and is awaiting approvals for stages 1 and 2 from them which we believe is imminent.
The South Dubin County Council Pavillions programme is a County wide programme and regrettably an unsatisfactory response was received to a public advertisement for the design and build of pavilions.
A design-build approach based on more a traditional construction model has proved successful for the Clondalkin Equine project and it is proposed to use this approach to tender the sports pavilion and car-park in Dodder Valley Park, Oldbawn. If this proves successful it can be expanded to address the other pavilions originally included in the programme. This tender will issue in the coming weeks.
In light of the proximity of the pavilion approved for Griffeen Valley Park to the site for the proposed Swimming-pool and the planned upgrade of the childrens playground, the site for the pavilion will be reviewed. If there are advantages to its relocation this will be brought back to Elected Members before any Part 8 proposal is considered."
