MOTION NO. 27

MOTION: Councillor V. Casserly

"That this area committee requests that the chief executive carries out an audit of the suitability and size of the street trees in Ardeevin and to bring a report back to this committee."

REPORT:

"A full survey of the trees in Ardeevin estate is currently being carried out to inform the programming of tree pruning and removal works for all trees in the estate that are identified as requiring tree maintenance.  Ardeevin Court is listed for tree maintenance works as part of the ongoing 2016 Tree Maintenance Programme.

In undertaking the survey of each tree, an assessment is made of the health and condition of the tree itself and also of its surroundings and growing environment.  There are some trees in Ardeeving estate that are in conflict with overhead wires.  Any maintenane or remedial actions proposed will be considered having regard to the overall health of the tree and the long term viability and maintenance requirements of the tree in the prevailing circumstances.  Wherever possible, it is the Council's policy to avoid the unnecessary removal of a healthy tree except in circumstances where an issue relating to size, suitability or other cannot be reasonably addressed by an alternative solution and proactive tree management has had no mitigating effect."
