QUESTION NO.14
QUESTION: Councillor E. O'Brien
"To ask the Chief Executive to clarify the following in relation to the soon to be opened library in Palmerstown;
Will the library be full time and what will its opening hours be
Will the library be fully stocked with books or simply an “IT hub”
Will the library be permanently staffed?"
REPLY:
1. The Unit in the Palmerstown Shopping Centre is at present being re designed to suit library use. It is envisaged that the new Palmerstown Library Hub will be open on a part-time basis from the end of 2016. The opening hours will be decided nearer to the opening date.
2. This new library space will have public access computers, children’s computers, Wifi, printers, self-service unit, and access points to download e-books and e-audio books on to personal devices.
The Library will also stock a selection of popular adult reading material – fiction and non-fiction, which will be updated on a regular basis. For the children there will be a selection of books for all ages.
Small groups will be facilitated for meetings such as book clubs. Also facilities for study and homework will be available.
3. The library will have a staff member present when open, but consideration may be given to having an “Open Library” element available also in the future, which would increase the hours available to the public to use the facility.
