QUESTION NO. 26

QUESTION: Councillor K. Mahon

"To ask the Chief Executive to please report as to whether any assessment of tree maintenance needs has been carried out in Parkwood, Old Bawn, Tallaght. The Residents Association have raised this on numerous occasions with the Council. Can you advise as to when the estate can be assessed and included on the Tree Maintenance Programme should work be required?"

REPLY:

"In line with the Council's Tree Management Policy 2015-2020 "Living with Trees", the focus of the 2016 Tree Maintenance Programme and future programmes will be on entire roads or whole estates. This represents a move away from reactive pruning of individual trees on a one off basis to a planned programme of maintenance. The objective of this approach is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the tree maintenance crews and to advance a proactive programme of cyclical pruning that is targeted at priority locations where intervention is most needed to yield wider community benefit.

Parkwood Estate, Oldbawn is not included for maintenance on the current 2016 Tree Maintenance Programme but it is planned for inclusion on the programme for 2017. In advance of tree maintenance works being undertaken, a full survey of all trees in Parkwood Estate will be carried out to inform the programme and scheduling of tree pruning and removal works for all trees in the estate that are identified as requiring tree maintenance."
