"Can I get an update on the plans for the play space in Newcastle?"

REPORT:

It was not possible to identify a suitable site in Newcastle for the development of a play space under the 2014 – 2018 Play Space programme. The most viable option is to site the facility in the proposed new park to be constructed as part of the Newcastle Local Area Plan. However, the development of this park is some time in the future and is dependent on the resumption of construction on the adjoining lands.

Nevertheless, in an effort to progress the idea, discussions have taken place and are continuing with the Department of Education and Skills on the possibility of using a site adjacent to the newly constructed St Finian’s National School at Newcastle. This would be a temporary site as it is likely to be required by the Department in the longer term.

The Elected Members will be updated on progress with the discussions.
