MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 18

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

"This committee agrees that a proper footpath should be installed outside the former Esso garage on Monastery road Clondalkin and that the problem of the very steep entrance to the adjacent Monastery Heights would be addressed at the same time.   And that these works would be done at the same time as the drainage works which will once again disrupt traffic on the Monastery Road in the near future. Furthermore, this committee requests that there would  in future be more co-ordination of works to ensure that the same road is not dug up several times in close succession with all the attendant traffic disruption therein entailed."

REPORT:

A meeting was held recently with a Residents representative of Monastery Heights to discuss the problem of the steep incline of the entrance to the estate. It was agreed that a survey would be carried out to examine the feasibility of improving the entrance onto the Monastery Road.  A suggestion was made at the meeting to look at the feasibility of providing a stepped entrance through the boundary wall for pedestrians but the Residents were not in favour. Due to the existing gradients across the entrance and ownership issue with the Esso garage it is not possible to install a footpath at this location as requested.  It should be noted that a new footpath and bus stop has been provided outside Monastery Heights together with a new Pedestrian Crossing as part of the National Transport Authority funded scheme completed recently.

As regards the co-ordination of the works on the Monastery Road, both schemes, which were separately funded, were carried out in consultation with the relevant departments delivering the schemes so as to minimise outrun costs.
