QUESTION NO. 7

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the Chief Executive to present a report on his dealings with St Marks GAA Club, Cookstown Road, Tallaght, following the attendance of two members of his staff, along with a representative of Tallaght Gardai, at a recent meeting at the Club house; will he detail actions now proposed in respect of all the issues raised at the meeting which covered matters of concern to the Club and will he give assurances in the matter?"

REPLY:

A recent meeting at St Mark's GAA complex on Cookstown Road was attended by two members of staff from the Council's public realm section and was also attended by the Garda Superintendent responsible for the Tallaght area. The issues raised by the club related to anti-social behaviour, the desire on the part of the club to have the park enclosed by fencing and also an issue with regard to poor drainage on some of the playing pitches.

The request to fence the park is one that has only recently been made.   Due to the area involved and length of fencing required to surround this park it will not be possible to include it in the ongoing maintenance or public realm improvement works programme.  It is proposed that a cost estimate will be prepared for this proposal and that it will be considered for inclusion in the Council's 3 year rolling capital works programme.

The Council has been aware of ongoing drainage issues in some locations in the park and has taken measures in the past to address these matters.  As these problems appear to persist and have not been satisfactorily addressed by the measures taken by the Council to date it seems that it will now be necessary to undertake a more extensive examination of the drainage in the area to identify the source of these problems and to design a solution to them.  This work will commence with a drainage survey which it is hoped will be carried out in the very near future.
