MOTION NO. 2
MOTION: Councillor L. Dunne
"That this Area Committee asks the Chief Executive why Jobstown playground has not been opened all summer, given that I have discussed this issue for months in this Committee? Below is a response from the May Area Committee Meeting. However, groups, families and residents were unable to enter the playground all through the summer."

REPORT:
Following the ending of continuous supervision at Jobstown playground it was found that the portacabin units in place there were being vandalised and had become dangerous as a result. On inspection it was evident that these units presented a potential hazard to users of the facility and the decision was taken by the local depot to close it until such time as the hazard was removed. Arrangements were made to have the units removed and this took place in early June. Following the removal of the units it was found that the ground underneath was also unsafe, and that this also needed to be addressed prior to the public being allowed access to the playground again. Arrangements were then made to have the ground filled and properly surfaced. Both these issues have now been addressed and the playground has now been re-opened. The playground was closed around June 1st and re-opened around August 2nd, and was therefore closed for a period of two months.
