MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

That this Council requests that a new protocol be introduced to ensure that An Garda Síochána are consulted ahead of all future funfairs on SDCC controlled parks and open spaces with a view to putting in place policing plans as appropriate to prevent anti-social behaviour.

REPORT:

As has been the practise for some time, South Dublin County Council tenders for the provision of funfairs and circuses in the following park lands; Corkagh Park, Clondalkin, Griffeen Valley Park, Lucan and Tymon Park, Tallaght.

Xtreme Funfair submitted the sucessful bid for the provision of funfairs in the above approved locations from September 2015 until the summer of 2018.

No bid was received in respect of the provision of circuses.

Certain steps are taken by the Council before the Funfair takes place, one of which is to notify the local Garda Superintendent informing him of the dates and times of the funfair, including the time allocated for the erection and dis-assembling of the site.

It is a requirement of Council that the Funfair organiser also ensures that their own security in place to police the site.
