QUESTION: Councillor N. Coules

"To ask the Chief Executive when the pool at Tallaght Leisure Centre will be fully operational as ongoing breakdowns of the boom and movable floor jeopardise membership of both Fortunestown Swimming Club and the Centre itself?"

REPLY:

The Centre both in Tallaght and Clondalkin are operated and managed on behalf of the SDCC by Tallaght Leisure Services ltd.

Works carried out recently by Europools in Tallaght following issues with the boom identified that the substructure of the movable floor had been badly crushed/damaged. This resulted in operating with the boom in place for the foreseeable future. Europools examined which options are available to design a workable solution and just late last week provided their report which we are having considered by our technical team. Given the tight space and other logistical issues this appears to be a complex and expensive job. We are considering their report which included costings and we will have to review if the solution represents value for money.

The local swim club (25m lane users) have raised the issue and have been offered space in Clondalkin Pool in the interim.
