MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor L. Dunne

That this Area Committee calls on the Chief Executive to have the movable floor in Tallaght Leisure Centre fixed as soon as possible.

REPORT:

The Centre both in Tallaght and Clondalkin are operated and managed on behalf of the SDCC by Tallaght Leisure Services ltd.

Works carried out recently by Europools Ltd following issues with the Boom in Tallaght identified that the substructure of the movable floor had been badly crushed/damaged. This has resulted in operating with the boom in place for the foreseeable future. Europools  examined which options are available to design a workable solution and just late last week provided their report which we are having considered by our technical team. Given the tight space and other logistical issues this appears to be a complex and expensive job. We are considering their report including costings and we will have to review if the proposed solution represents value for money.

The local swim club (25m lane users) have raised the issue and have been offered space in Clondalkin Pool in the interim.
