QUESTION NO. 12

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the Chief Executive if his Roads Department is aware of a request from residents of Maplewood Avenue Springfield Estate Tallaght to provide traffic calming measures in the area which would also have the effect of preventing the playing of football on the roadway; will he confirm plans for local consultations in the matter and will he make a statement?"

REPLY:

It is considered that Maplewood Avenue is adequately traffic calmed. It is a cul de sac. There is an island at the entrance from Maplewood Road which is a traffic calming measure. There are ramps in place to slow traffic down if traffic is building up speed after entering the road. Parking is allowed generally on both sides of the road which contributes to traffic calming.

It is also proposed to reduce the speed limit to 30 kph as part of the current countywide speed limit review.
