QUESTION NO. 11

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the Chief Executive to immediately carry out a review of the pedestrian crossing facilities (or lack of same) at the two roundabouts at the eastern end of Belgard Square North and in carrying out this review will he identify all works required to improve pedestrian safety at these roundabouts and establish a hierarchy that gives a greatly increased priority to pedestrians at these locations and schedule the carrying out of such works at the earliest occasion?"

REPLY:

Pedestrian movemnts at both roundabouts are served by use of pedestrian refuge islands located on the desire line at the edge of the circulating carriage. This is a standard arrangement for roundabouts and generally works well.

Any review and or alterations would be best as part of an overall review of pedestrian/ cycle facilities in the general area.

No funding exists for such a review.
