SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

South Dublin County Council Crest

MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 4

MOTION: Councillor M. Genockey

That this Committee calls on the Council to run a suitable publicity campaign or to contact convenience stores and take-aways in the area to remind them of their duties to provide bins outside their premises, to keep the area surrounding their premises clean and the penalties for not abiding by these regulations.

 REPORT:

The owner or person responsible for a place to which the public has access is required to keep the area adjoining the premises litter free, regardless of how the litter got there. This places an obligation on business people to keep footpaths pavements and gutters within a 100m radius of their premises litter free.

Occupier of a premises shall, if required by an authorised officer, at the occupier’s own cost, provide an adequate number of litter receptacles immediately outside their premises.

Our Litter Warden Service patrol the county towns and villages on a very regular basis and has established relationships with the business community in terms of reminding them of their duties.

It is the Council's intention where considered necessary, to issue notices, pursuant to Section 16, requiring the installation of bins to the front of the shops and the making of arrangements to have said bins emptied on a regular basis.
