MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

"This committee supports the development of a heritage project at the old church in St Cuthbert's Park which is a historical building of national importance."

REPORT:

The Heritage Officer met with members of the Deansrath community and the South West Clondalkin Community Safety Forum on 15th March 2016 to discuss the potential for a community heritage project at the historic St. Cuthbert's church site.  A condition assessment had been commissioned under the County Heritage Plan in 2013 which can assist in identifying maintenance issues that could be addressed, bearing in mind the protected status of the site and the necessary input of the Council's Architectural Conservation Officer.  The Heritage Officer can assist by providing support under the County Heritage Plan to organise the input of a qualified archaeologist who would advise and oversee any approved activities that the community group and the Community Safety Forum wish to proceed with.
