COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE
Wednesday, April 20, 2016
QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
"To ask the Chief Executive for a report in response to the agreed motion below and how this can be progressed going forward?"
(Motion No. 47260
That in order to progress a Library for Rathcoole that a report be brought on the suitability of the ”court of petty sessions”, the estimated cost of using the space as a library and overall cost of refit and staffing.)
REPLY:
A permanent library serving the Rathcoole/Saggart/Newcastle area would indeed be a huge asset to the communities of these areas. However at present there is a focus on a Library for North Clondalkin. The County Council and Libraries Department will of course consider this request in time subject to a planned investment programme in library infrastructure being put in place.
In the meanwhile the Mobile Library offers a service to these communities.
Rathcoole: 2 school visits and 2 public stops in the village every Monday evening.
Saggart: Public stop every second Thursday
Newcastle: Public stops every Monday afternoon
We also deliver boxes of books each month to nursing homes and crèches in Rathcoole, Saggart and Newcastle and visit the crèches for special story times and promotional visits from time to time.
A home delivery service is also available to any person who has difficulty visiting their local branch library due to age or illness.
