QUESTION NO. 15

QUESTION: Councillor K. Mahon

"To ask the Chief Executive for an update on the relocation of bottle banks currently situated on Avonbeg Road, Tallaght. This facility has been the subject of numerous representations. The Area Committee was recently advised that the facility would be relocated early in 2016, although no final location had been agreed. At least two representations have been made regarding dumping at the site since December 2015?"

REPLY:

The issue of possible relocation of the bring banks on Avonbeg Road has been raised on a number of occasions in the past. The commitment given previously was that the site would be relocated if, but only if, an alternative site could be found for the facility. An alternative site has not be found to date due to the lack of a suitable site in the local area and the proximity of housing to some potential sites which were examined. The review of the bring bank strategy which was carried out in 2015 and concluded by the Environment SPC in February 2016 allows for a different approach with regard to siting criteria, the 50 metre distance required from the nearest housing is no longer an absolute requirement. If a site is suitable in all other respects but fails with regard to the 50 metre requirement, then the site will be pursued further through consultation with the local residents.  At a recent Tallaght area committee a site close to the Partas premises at Seskin View Road was proposed as an alternative site and a commitment was given to examine this. This proposal will be considered further in the coming weeks.
