QUESTION NO. 3

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

"To ask the Chief Executive to confirm plans to fund works at Kilnamanagh Community Centre and will he detail the schedule now being followed in the matter?"

REPLY:

Kilnamanagh Community Centre is one of two Community Facilitilies that have been selected by the Council to be entered into an funding application for Energy Efficiency Upgrade Works administered by Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). Members will recall that over the last number of years various community centres have been upgraded under this scheme.

The scheme provides grant aid towards the cost of appropraite energy upgrade works which are determined following a rigourous energy audit of the facility. Any works to be completed are therefore subject to the success of this application which must meet the requirements as independently assessed by SEAI. It should also be noted that the funding programme only provides up to a maximum fund of 50% of the total cost of the proposed works. The balance of the required funds will have to be raised locally but in the interim the facility will benefit from the savings generated through lower energy costs.

It is anticipated that a decision from SEAI will be forthcoming in the next number of months and if successful the required works must be completed before the end of the current year.
