QUESTION NO. 5

QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner

"Residents in Castle Avenue, Clondalkin (name and address supplied) were assured three years ago that the trees on their road which were blocking the light in their road would be dealt with under the arboricultural programme.  We are aware that arrangements had to be made with the ESB to shut down the power but surely it couldn't take this long?"

 REPLY:

In line with the Council's Tree Management Policy 2015-2020 "Living With Trees", the focus of the 2016 Tree Maintenance Programme will be on entire roads or whole estates. This represents a move away from reactive pruning of individual trees on a one off basis to a planned maintenance programme. The objective of this approach will increase the efficiency and productivity of the tree maintenance crews and advance a proactive programme of cyclical pruning targeting priority locations where intervention is most needed.

In this context, Castle Park Estate in Clondalkin, which includes Castle Avenue and Castle Drive, is listed on the 2016 Tree Maintenance Programme.  A full survey of all trees in the estate is scheduled to be carried out in the near future to inform a programme of tree pruning and removal works for all trees in the estate that are identified as requiring tree maintenance. These works will be carried out during 2016.  Arrangements to enable works to be completed where trees are in proximity to overhead electricity wires will be made as necessary.
