MOTION NO. 12

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

"This committee commends all staff involved in organising events to commemorate the centenary of 1916 in the Clondalkin electoral area and beyond.  The flagship event Paths to Freedom at Tallaght Stadium on February 27th was a triumph.  The talks in county library and throughout the library network are excellent and very well attended.  Proclamation day brings 1916 to every school and to our own Civic Offices in Clondalkin.  We are looking forward to the dedication of the 1916 garden near Newlands cross and to the very special concert on the same evening , April 30th in Clondalkin library.  Comhghairdeas do gach duine."

REPORT:

The Council's Centenary Programme is attracting large number of participants to our events and exhibitions and we are delighted with how the year is progressing to date. The next events scheduled are for Proclamation Day on the 15th March in Clondalkin, where the Mayor will raise the National Flag for first time at the Civic Offices. The 1916 Oral History Collection for South Dublin County will be launched in the Council Chamber at 6.30pm on the 23rd March and on the 30th April in Clondalkin Library a Grand Irish Concert which was due to take place on the 30th April 1916 in that venue in aid of the Gaelic League will be reinacted. It will be a celebratory concert featuring Irish Music, Dancing, Readings and Recitations- exactly 100 years to the day of the original concert.
