MOTION NO. 7
MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan
"That the Chief Executive gives an update on finger signs and information panels to be installed throughout Clondalkin."
REPORT:
The criteria for selection of Villages for rollout of the Village Signage was approved by the September 9th 2015 Economic Enterprise & Tourism SPC.
All Villages were subsequently assessed using the agreed criteria and the recommended order of rollout was approved by the Joint Arts, Culture, Gaeilge Heritage & Libraries and Economic, Enterprise & Tourism Development SPC Meeting of 11th November 2015.
The November SPC prioritised rollout in Clondalkin initially.
It is intended that this rollout follow alongside the multi-million development of the Round Tower Visitor Centre in its later stages. Considerable Heritage information and research has already been collated for the purposes of implementation. However the Round Tower Project is a particular focus of the Villages team at present.
Immediate priorities on this project are the commencement of construction following the award of contract, this is due in April.
Work is also ongoing to select and appoint both the Café operator by June and for work to progress from collation of heritage materials to implementation of an exhibition and learning plan for the Centre, to bring the heritage associated with the Tower and the area to life for Visitors. Implementation of this phase will most likely be in the latter quarter of 2016.
To capitalise upon these public realm plans and the take up of the Shop Front Grant Scheme the Council has also extended the closing date of the Shop Front Grant Scheme and welcomes applications from relevant units in Clondalkin.
