MOTION NO. 13

MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons

"With the "Tower project" coming on stream - We support Clondalkin Tidy Towns and believe that investment in a new surface laid around the trees in the village would greatly enhance the image of the village." (https://sapgroup.com/landscaping/products-for-landscaping/addastone-tree-pit/

REPORT:

As advised in Feb 2015, "A number of projects under the Villages Initiative are already completed in Clondalkin, including painting of buildings (2014)and tree-planting of semi-mature trees(2013). These works were discussed and carried out in conjunction with Clondalkin Tidy Towns."

As part of the Round Tower Visitor Centre and Public Gardens a public realm upgrade is proposed to be carried out in the area immediately adjoining the entrance to the building. This will include the preservation of existing trees and planting of new street trees, installation of some street furniture and upgrade of paving. These works will commence on site in March-April 2016 and will be completed within approximately 12 months. No other projects will be proposed for any area in Clondalkin under the Villages Initiative Programme until this flagship scheme is completed. Other grant aid for Shop-front/building improvements, community projects and festivals all as set out in the Council budget will be available and the Council will liaise with Tidy Towns and other groups as they develop these projects.
